House of Gohar

Dries Van Noten is delighted to present Laila & Nadia Gohar at The Little House, 451 N. La Cienega Blvd

Egyptian-born, New York-based Laila Gohar is an installation artist who works with food as her medium. She creates immersive and theatrical experiences which aim to blur the lines between art and dining. Her work has been exhibited internationally. Laila often collaborates with her sister Nadia.

Nadia Gohar is a painter and sculpture who is interested in utilizing craft as a visual dialogue of local and materialistic histories. She lives and works in New York City.

Founded by sisters Laila & Nadia Gohar in 2020, Gohar World is a family-owned tableware universe that celebrates tradition, time, craft, and humor.

Made for entertaining in the modern age, our surrealist, transportive home objects are thoughtfully created in small ateliers to bring people together around the table. Both fanciful and functional, they ensure that every meal is a cause for celebration: pearl hats top off mouth-blown wine glasses; silk satin baguette bags come embellished with big bows; and giant candles are shaped like sausages, heads of cauliflower, and sparkling peaches — each bound to dazzle and delight all of your guests.

Gohar invites you to step into our dream world, so that you, too, can become the consummate host — one who is generous and stylish, and, of course, never takes themselves too seriously. Consider this an excuse to plan a dinner party beyond your wildest imagination.

TRADITION

Throughout time, perhaps no object has been as meaningful to family and community as the dinner table, the ultimate place of gathering. It’s here that simple acts — like laying out a tablecloth, opening a bottle of wine, and cutting a cake — become rituals of the greatest importance. Playfully marrying tradition with the unexpected, Gohar offers a new form of self-expression for these moments of meaning.

TIME

In the Gohar world, everybody can be the hostess supreme — one who is generous enough to give you a piece of themselves. A testament to the time it takes to put together a dinner party — from curating a guest list and gathering ingredients to preparing the meal itself — a carefully considered tabletop represents perhaps the greatest gift of all: the chance to sit and enjoy the company of old friends and new. Our endurable, unforgettable objects are crafted using long-standing techniques to create memories and become future heirlooms.

CRAFT

Gohar World was born out of the desire to preserve crafts and support the communities behind them. Our objects are designed in downtown New York City and manufactured by small family-owned ateliers around the world, from Vietnam to Austria, Italy, and Spain. The majority of our linens are sewn in the Cairo atelier of Laila and Nadia’s family with the finest Egyptian cottons and linens. Their grandmother, Nabila, hand-stitches all the satin bows used throughout the collection. Such thoughtfully-produced pieces contribute to tangible, real-life experiences — ones which you cannot simply “add to cart.”

HUMOR

At Gohar, we believe that the same consideration that goes into dressing oneself should extend to setting the table. Designed for drinking, eating, and creating conversation, our collection of whimsical tabletop accents come with a distinct surrealist sensibility, as seen in our vegetable bonnets, shirting-inspired tablecloths, and linen plate covers embellished with freshwater pearls in the shape of — what else? — chicken feet.
