Record curation by tim blanks
Tim Blanks has been covering fashion around the world since 1985. From 1989, he hosted the CBC’s globally syndicated show Fashion File, just as cable television and the fashion industry were discovering each other.  Then he spent ten years as editor-at-large for Style.com, the Condé Nast website that helped fan the explosion of interest in fashion over the past few decades.  In both instances, it was happy accident rather than steely ambition that put him in the right place at the right time.  Same thing with his most recent gig as editor-at-large of Business of Fashion, a website whose success suggests popular interest in the fashion industry remains undimmed.
Tim’s critical voice has been recognized with awards, but he has always maintained that it is context rather than critique that inspires his writing.  How does fashion tell its stories?  Music has obviously played a vital role, and, as one of Tim’s lifelong obsessions, it often informs his writing about fashion.  He sees a pure logic there: the way that clothes resonate in our lives, they are as much of a soundtrack as the songs that shape us.
